Team Ohio Hockey scores a hat-trick!

The USA Hockey, Ohio, Tier 2 State Tournament will take place at the Queen City Sportsplex in Cincinnati, OH the weekend of October 18-20, 2024 and Team Ohio will be well represented.   

Tournament teams and placements were just released and Team Ohio scored a hat-trick qualifying all three teams they had designated as tournament eligible.   

Each year programs are permitted to declare themselves "National Bound," at the 18U, 16U and 14U level, a term that simply means eligible to go to Nationals should they win the annual state tournament.  This season Team Ohio declared a single team at the 16U level and a pair of teams at the 18U level; all three teams qualified and earned the right to compete for a chance to win a state championship and head to the USA Hockey, Tier 2, National Championships. 

For the 16U state tournament, there will be a play-in game on Wednesday, October 23rd between the Cincinnati Cyclones and the Sylvania Northstars; winner will earn the #4 seed.  State tournament brackets must have even number of teams (4,6,8) hence the need for a play-in game with 5 teams declaring at the 16U level.  Team Ohio 16U-McCarthy earned the #2 seed and will face off against all three teams in their bracket.   The state champion will be the team to earn the most points in pool play.

At the 18U level, Team Ohio 18U-Metzger earned the #3 seed while 18U-Mehalic snuck in as the #6 seed.  Interestingly, Metzger and Mehalic will face off against each other in the opening round of pool play.  For the 18U level there will be a true state championship game with the top two point earners from the pool of 6 facing off against one another on Sunday October 20, 2024.
